Sapphire
● While blue is the colour most people associate with sapphires, they can naturally appear in pink, yellow, green, orange, purple, and even colourless forms. The colour depends largely on tiny amounts of different elements within the stone.
● Sapphire scores 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it the second-hardest natural mineral after diamond. That’s why sapphire is excellent for jewellery that gets worn every day.
● Certain sapphires contain microscopic needle-like inclusions that can create a beautiful six-rayed “star” effect when the stone is cut into a cabochon. These are called star sapphires, and the effect is known as asterism.
