Alexandrite, Moonstone & Pearl
● Alexandrite is famous for its dramatic color change. In daylight it often appears green or bluish-green, but under incandescent light it can shift to red or purplish-red. This happens because the gemstone absorbs and reflects different wavelengths of light depending on the light source.
● Moonstone’s glowing, floating sheen is called adularescence. The effect comes from light scattering between microscopic layers inside the stone, creating a soft glow that seems to move as the gem is turned.
● Unlike most gemstones, pearls are created by living animals. They form when oysters or other mollusks deposit layers of nacre (mother-of-pearl) around an irritant, making pearls one of the few gems that come from a biological process rather than being mined from the Earth.
