November Birthstones:
Citrine & Topaz
● November is one of the few months with two official birthstones, citrine and topaz, and although they can look remarkably similar in golden shades, they are completely different minerals with different chemical compositions and crystal structures!
● Citrine gets its name from the French word citron, meaning lemon, and its gorgeous golden colour comes from traces of iron within quartz; interestingly, much of the citrine jewellery available today is actually heat-treated amethyst!
● Topaz is found in an incredible variety of colours, including blue, pink, yellow, orange and colourless, with some natural pink and imperial orange varieties being particularly rare and valuable; it also ranks 8 on the Mohs hardness scale!
